"Those who honor me I will honor" 2 Samuel 2:30
By Jamie Trisler
In Proverbs a woman represents God’s wisdom, “. . . she raises her voice” (V. 1). Her voice is heard in the streets including the most well-known and important areas of town. She makes herself known especially to those who are gullible, prideful, and ignorant and/or stubborn to the truth of God. However, tragically this targeted group often rejects her appeal and ignores her knowledge and counsel. She warns this group that trouble and misery will come their way because of their refusal of her. And she tells them that she will ignore their pleas for help, as well as laugh and mock them when these horrendous circumstances engulf their lives. Why?
“Because they hated knowledge
and did not choose the fear of the LORD,
would have none of my counsel
and despised all my reproof” (Vs. 29-30).
The lack of repentance and turning to the Lord God and His wisdom will lead this group to their own demise because of their continuous self-satisfying living which flagrantly opposes God’s will. However, this passage ends with the promise to those who were once of wisdom’s target group and responded to her crying out to them:
“But whoever listens to me will dwell secure
and will be at ease, without dread of disaster” (V. 33).
The question each person must answer is “What is my response to wisdom of God?”
