"Those who honor me I will honor" 2 Samuel 2:30
In my last post I was having a”pity party,” wallowing in despair, treading water in a shark invested swamp. Yes, I know sharks don’t live in swamps, but when I feel down and out, everything seems uphill and against the wind. I can be a first class whiner, “poor me.”
The verse above might be what you need to read today, I know I do. As writers, we work alone. For most of us, writing is the joyful part of our gift from God. The horrible part, the area where Satan dwells is finding an agent, selling our work, marketing our manuscripts, and promoting our work by maintaining a website, sending Tweets, writing a blog, arranging speaking engagements, and book signings. All this must be done while maintaining our daily life.
When you have a manuscript ready for publications, Satan gets busy. Waiting for that acceptance letter is difficult, and it is the devil’s playground. Satan reminds you through rejection letters that you are no good; Satan tells you that you will never sell anything or sell another article if you have already sold one. Satan loves to tear us down, make us feel less than worthless.
This is when we need to be reminded, our gift of writing is from God. HE longs to be gracious to us. HE rises to show us compassion. Blessed are those who WAIT for HIM.
To combat Satan, I suggest you concentrate on minor progress. Congratulate yourself for submitting. A rejection means you are trying, not that you are failing. Pat yourself on the back when you finish an article and edit it. Rejoice if you receive a personal rejection. Rejoice when a fellow writer gives you suggestions. Rejoice when your play does not win the competition, but you are asked to submit a play for their consideration. Rejoice while you wait, GOD has blessings for you.
