Ps 37:4-5 Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you your heart’s desires. Commit everything you do the Lord. Trust him, and he will help you.
These sayings are for people who want to live skillfully in a society that is crumbling. We never like being told what to do, but these words are used more as guidelines from a more experienced person on how to make our life successful in a corrupt world. When we focus on the Lord and appreciate his help navigating through this world, we can delight in everything he gives us.
After all these years as a Christian, I’m still sometimes bothered by the success of evil, corrupt, mean people. Not because I want what they have, but because they appear to enjoy being bad. The key here is their “appearance”. Everything looks good from the outside but is it? They are playing a very dangerous game, one that I refuse to play.
When we “delight” in the Lord, we make a decision to trust him, commit to him and not get angry at life’s injustices. The only way to do that is to know him. The knowledge of God’s love for us will completely wrap us in joy, happiness and pleasure. That is something that evil people will never have or understand.
