Word of the Day is Security

By Jena Kleinpeter

Ps 3:3, 5 But you, O Lord, are a shield around me; you are my glory, the one who holds my head high… I lay down and slept, yet I woke up in safety, for the Lord was watching over me.

Ever had a bad day? You overslept, traffic was horrendous, computer problems then you find out that a coworker is gossiping about you. That was all before lunch. Well, nothing compares with David’s day of fleeing his son Absalom, who wanted to overthrow the kingdom.

We all have enemies and those who oppress us. They attack on our integrity and morals. Spiritual enemies attack your confidence in God and even people trying to control your life. Remember, only God has control of everything. Pray like David prayed then give the problem to God. Nothing and nobody gets past God.

Having God, as your shield is the best security you can have. Before bedtime, I would pray God’s protection and peace over our son. He woke frequently and worried that something would come get him in the night. Night after night the same prayer “a hedge of protection, loving arms of God and a peace.”  After weeks of praying, he said “Mom I got it, my hedge, His arms and peace.” It seems simplistic, but it worked. He understood that God shielded him from anything coming against him that could hurt him. The answered prayer of peace, love and security was his assurance that God is in control.
