I’m Over the Hurt and Behind on Me

I’m Over the Hurt and Behind on Me
By Barbara Jones

He drove me crazy, and I’ll tell my story.
First, I’m thankful, God said, “I’m sorry.”
When at the altar God told me only.
He said, “You have to go thru this, one day it will be over.”

What do I say in three words, one sentence,
To sum up all the billion feelings?
Maybe, I just need to say, “Ok, I give up, Jesus.”
Jesus, you know who threw me out, and who choked my neck.

CHORUS
Flat on my back, now looking up.
Exposed and helpless, “Jesus, you sent thru this yourself.”
You took all the pain and shame when you called my name.
I’m behind on me, you’re way ahead, over 2,000 years ago, I heard!

I stretch out my arms, look up at the sky.
I can fly with God, and enjoy my life,
Determined, steadfast, and saying “Good-bye!”

I’m flying high like an eagle, as I let go of reasons,
Keeping my eyes on the prize, forgetting self and passing on,
I stopped crying, and started praying, started writing.
I’ve got scars, but Jesus has me!

REPEAT CHORUS

Yeah, Jesus knows and understands
Has scars of his own, in his feet and hands,
I have scars in my heart, that others I loved spoke,
But you and I are the nails of sin, that with his blood, he washed and took.

I’m behind on me, over the hurt,
Cause he called my name, gave me a new start.
I was a stranger, now, I’m a daughter,
No longer roaming, know where I’m going.

REPEAT CHORUS

Satisfied with the Son of God,
He’s the groom, I’m the bride,
I’m looking for Jesus, He’s coming soon!
I’ll smile when I see him, he will, too!!

A song from my heart.

Inspired by a stranger talking about a hurtful relationship in the past.
