Hester, Portia
Portia’s passion for writing started in middle school. It carried into the early years of high school. There, she began writing poetry. She still remembers the heartbreak of losing her black and white composition notebook full of poems during Hurricane Katrina. She never wrote another poem afterwards.
Today, she feels a powerful pull in her spirit to return to writing. Portia is committed to embrace God’s call to write the words he gives her. Her writing goals include becoming a part of a community of knowledgeable individuals sent by God to support her, hold her accountable, and guide her spiritually. She is committed to setting aside time each week for writing and allowing God’s message to flow through her. Her ultimate goal is becoming a published author.
Portia is a native of New Orleans, and proud single mom of a 7-year-old daughter. She earned a master’s degree in special education, and works as a special educator with the Jefferson Parish Public School System. She finds joy spending quality time with God each morning, playing board games and cards with her daughter, journaling, jogging, swimming, and connecting with family and friends.
