The Momo Barbie Song
By Barbara Jones
“A Song in my heart Poem”
I didn’t know I’d feel like this, kinda like a missionary,
I have an empty nest, quiet and peaceful,
At my age of 74, I thought I’d done all that was needful,
Two grown sons, nine grandkids, I’ll be truthful,
It’s harder now, I’m on call at least back then,
Then all lived here, now, I’m picked up to go to Slidell to be with them,
I’m older now and slower get tired easier,
Being retired, I thought I could slip late, but not over there!!
They get me up with the roosters!! Ha!! Ha!!
They try to be quiet, like mama says, “don’t wake up Momo Barbie,”
“No way Hose!” (I say)
Their quiet is like a bulldozer.
I taught them to play, Mother May I, Uno, Match Game,
I Spy, Connect 4. What in the World I ask them,
“Ya’ll want Momo Barbie to play” I Spy, Go Fish with ya’ll?”
And so, I did and guess what?
Lots of times they beat Momo Barbie Doll.
I get up here anytime and sleep late,
But over there, they’re the Boss and keep me doing what they want
11, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, years old and there’s three mor in Fairhope, Alabama
Those three are too far away, but text and calls keep us in touch,
Two have jobs, one is a pastor in youth ministry, don’t see them much
My son asked me to go stay a few days every week,
To help out his wife and kids while he worked,
Twelve hours a day, 7 days a week because his wife needed help
“Ok,” I said. I am excited to spend time and play, be a kid myself,
Before I went there for four days and nights, three weeks, and came back home
I wrote lots of poems and songs one after another,
But now, for a month I was “Living the Song of Momo Barbie’s Grandmother,”
I thought, “I can’t write songs or hear His voice, I’m so busy.”
My grandkids are in my head, buzzing like bees in a frenzy!
I don’t have time to write, no peace, or quiet.”
All I heard were their laughter and screams of delight.
Maybe, I won’t write anymore songs, not a word or rhyme,
Before I was available to the Lord anywhere, anytime,
“Oh, well helping out with the kids is God’s will.”
So I dropped everything and put my life on hold, trusted God in it all
Come what may as their futures unfold,
I planted seeds in my grandkid’s souls
“Lord,” I prayed, “I ask you to remind them,
Of all the words I spoke about you, and how much you and I love them.
When I was younger, I could do more with them,
Let me stop and tell ya’ll their names:
Alexis (Lexi), Ayden (the Ace), Annalyn, Angela (Angie)
Alyson (Ali), Amiya (Mimi), and I smile,
I had been praying for them for quite awhile
We’ll have memories of going to church, and Mama, too,
It was kinda like going to vacation Bible school,
My son taught them to thank God before eating
And they all say together, “God is great, God is cool,
Thank you, Lord, for our food. AMEN “and they clap!
And I say, “Thank God he turned my time with them
Into this “Momo Barbie Doll Song! AMEN!!

God gave me this song Friday 3/7/25 at 9:32 a.m. when thinking about my stay at my grandkids.
Inspired by my grandkids. I dedicated my son, Randy for his birthday 3/4/25 on Mardi Gras day this year.
